WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE DEDE KORKUT INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

Bayburt University, Bayburt Governorship, Turkish Language Association and UNESCO Turkey National Commission organized the World Cultural Heritage Dede Korkut International Symposium in Bayburt, the homeland of Dede Korkut, between April 25-27, 2019.

The symposium, which started on Thursday, April 25, 2019, was attended by Bayburt University President Prof. Dr. Selçuk Coşkun, Turkish Language Association Vice President Prof. Dr. Feyzi Ersoy, UNESCO National Committee Vice President Prof. Dr. Metin Ekici, Bayburt Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, who made protocol speeches.

In the opening session of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Metin Ekici introduced the newly found Dede Korkut manuscript and provided information about the 13th length of Dede Korkut, named “The Length in Which Salur Kazan Killed the Seven-Headed Dragon”, which is included in this manuscript.

48 scientists, most of whom are experts in the field of Dede Korkut, attended the symposium, 9 from abroad (Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tatarstan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and 39 from within Turkey. The “Closing and Evaluation Session” of the symposium, where 41 valuable papers were presented, was held under the management of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Süleyman Çiğdem.

In his closing speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Selçuk Coşkun thanked the scientists who participated in the symposium, which was very productive, and those who contributed to the symposium.

This symposium, attended by many distinguished academics from Turkey and abroad who are experts in their fields, was a symposium where new information was revealed and Dede Korkut studies abroad were introduced. The first information about the 3rd copy of Dede Korkut was given at this symposium, and the introduction of the copy was made at this symposium. This symposium, hosted by Bayburt University, made a great contribution to Dede Korkut research.
