Peaceful university of safe city
The book "Bayburt Region Vocabulary" has been published as a publication of our university
Our academicians Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferdi Güzel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kürşad Kara and Assist. The book "Bayburt Region Vocabulary", which is a product of 8 years of field research and intensive studies of Dr. Lecturer Ahmet Akpınar, was published under the coordination of Bayburt Culture and History Application and Research Center (BAKÜTAM). The book makes an important contribution to the preservation of language and cultural memory by recording the vocabulary of the Bayburt region.

Speaking about the book, which took its place on the shelves, the authors said:

"The rapid development of technology and science, the expansion of educational opportunities and the widespread use of standard written language in daily life are gradually reducing the use of dialects and the local vocabulary is in danger of being forgotten. However, dialects continue to exist as important cultural heritage elements that enrich the written language and contribute to the solution of the historical problems of the Turkish language. This vocabulary belonging to the Bayburt region manages to be preserved to a large extent thanks to the geographical location of Bayburt, which is located in the Eastern Black Sea Region in the northeast of Anatolia, and its relatively closed settlement.  The Bayburt dialect not only contains the characteristic features of the Eastern Anatolian dialects and the Eastern group dialects, but also shows similarities with the Black Sea dialects spoken in the villages of neighboring provinces such as Rize and Trabzon. This proves that the Bayburt dialect does not only have a regional value, but also is a bridge between different dialects."

In the book, words, idioms and proverbs specific to the Bayburt region are discussed and recorded in detail. The work is an academic guide in the preservation of oral culture and linguistic heritage in the region.

After the publication of the book, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen, academicians who contributed to the preparation of the book and BAKUTAM Director Assist. He met with Fatih Mehmet Eşki. Our Rector Türkmen emphasized that the book is an important work in order to preserve the oral cultural memory of Bayburt and to transfer it to future generations. In addition, referring to the importance of the concept of sustainability in terms of language and culture, he stated that such studies should continue.

The book, which is offered for sale throughout the country, is of great importance not only for Bayburt, but also for Turkey's language and cultural history. This work, which was prepared with the devoted fieldwork of academicians and scientific methods, aims to contribute to cultural sustainability by transferring the Bayburt dialect and vocabulary to future generations.

The book can be accessed from the sales units of our University and the Revolving Fund Facility and the purchase process can be made.
