Environmental Management Office Activities and Responsibilities
The Environmental Management Office operates in accordance with the Law No. 657 on Civil Servants, Law No. 2547 on Higher Education, Law No. 2914 on Higher Education Personnel, the Environmental Law No. 2872 dated 09.08.1983, the Waste Management Regulation No. 29314 dated 02.04.2015, and the Zero Waste Regulation No. 29314 prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization dated 22.10.2018, as well as other relevant laws and regulations.
Our Goal:
- The purpose of the Environmental Management Office is to protect the environment and human health, prevent waste and pollution, raise awareness among individuals, create more livable living spaces, and achieve sustainable development.
Our Tasks and Responsibilities
The duties, authority, and responsibilities of the Environmental Management Office are as follows:

Plan the separate collection of recyclable wastes such as paper-cardboard, glass, metal, plastic, composite, and batteries.

Plan the separate collection of hazardous waste and medical waste.

Ensure the provision of appropriate informative signs or labels specific to each type of waste in the waste collection equipment.

Conduct a situation analysis across the university to ensure the correct volume, number, and characteristics of all waste collection equipment.

Plan the collection of accumulated waste in temporary storage areas for delivery to licensed waste processing facilities or municipal collection systems.

Make the necessary planning for the disposal and/or recycling of collected waste in accordance with the relevant legislation, and ensure that waste is sent to appropriate companies.

Work to create useful products from the collected waste and, if possible, generate income for the university.

Organize training sessions to raise awareness and create consciousness regarding the Environmental Management System.

Collaborate with relevant institutions outside the university and contribute to the development of the system.

Plan the detection of issues and needs analysis to ensure the most effective implementation of the Environmental Management System.

Regularly monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management System, take measures for deficiencies, and make updates where necessary. Keep records of the waste amounts sent to licensed facilities, and track the results and benefits of the process.

Work on ensuring the sustainability of the Zero Waste Certificate gained by the university.

Carry out activities to improve the university's ranking in the Green Metric rankings.
Job Descriptions
a. General Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Manage and represent the office.
- Carry out the office's programs and activities.
- Prepare the agenda for the meetings held within the office.
- Ensure communication and coordination between the office and other university units.
- Regularly inform the Rector and/or the appointed President about the office's activities and provide work reports.
- Fulfill other tasks assigned by the Rector and/or the appointed President regarding the Environmental Management Office.
- Participate in Senate meetings upon the Rector's request and provide information about the office’s activities.
- Suggest appointments for the Assistant General Coordinators, Coordinators, and staff to the Rector.
- Define the tasks and responsibilities of the staff working in the office.
b. Assistant General Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Act as the office representative in the absence of the General Coordinator.
- Serve as the rapporteur during meetings held within the office.
- Assist in the office's activities.
- Help prepare the meeting agenda in cooperation with the General Coordinator.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the General Coordinator.
c. Landscaping Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Represent the Landscaping Coordinatorship.
- Carry out the program and activities of the Landscaping Coordinatorship.
- Ensure communication and coordination between the Landscaping Coordinatorship, the office, and other coordinatorships.
- Provide work reports on the Landscaping Coordinatorship's activities to the General Coordinator.
- Fulfill other tasks assigned by the General Coordinator related to the Landscaping Coordinatorship.
- Ensure the implementation of landscaping projects on university campuses and improve the campus areas.
d. Hazardous Waste Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Represent the Hazardous Waste Coordinatorship.
- Carry out the program and activities of the Hazardous Waste Coordinatorship.
- Ensure communication and coordination between the Hazardous Waste Coordinatorship, the office, and other coordinatorships.
- Provide work reports on the Hazardous Waste Coordinatorship's activities to the General Coordinator.
- Fulfill other tasks assigned by the General Coordinator related to the Hazardous Waste Coordinatorship.
- Plan the separate collection of recyclable waste such as waste batteries.
- Plan the separate collection of hazardous and medical wastes.
- Ensure that collected hazardous wastes are taken by licensed companies.
- Regularly monitor hazardous waste and follow-up with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for related processes.
e. Environmental Education Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Represent the Environmental Education Coordinatorship.
- Carry out the program and activities of the Environmental Education Coordinatorship.
- Ensure communication and coordination between the Environmental Education Coordinatorship, the office, and other coordinatorships.
- Provide work reports on the Environmental Education Coordinatorship's activities to the General Coordinator.
- Fulfill other tasks assigned by the General Coordinator related to the Environmental Education Coordinatorship.
- Organize training programs on environmental issues, recyclable waste, hazardous waste, and related topics at the university.
- Organize events and educational activities to raise awareness for a sustainable environment.
f. Zero Waste Coordinator of the Environmental Management Office:
- Represent the Zero Waste Coordinatorship.
- Carry out the program and activities of the Zero Waste Coordinatorship.
- Ensure communication and coordination between the Zero Waste Coordinatorship, the office, and other coordinatorships.
- Provide work reports on the Zero Waste Coordinatorship's activities to the General Coordinator.
- Fulfill other tasks assigned by the General Coordinator related to the Zero Waste Coordinatorship.
- Ensure the separate collection of recyclable waste within the university.
- Ensure that collected recyclable waste is taken by licensed companies.
- Regularly monitor recyclable waste collection and follow-up with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for related processes.
g. Secretary of the Environmental Management Office:
- Carry out necessary tasks based on the office's division of labor.
- Perform assigned tasks thoroughly and on time.
- Monitor the progress of documents to ensure they are concluded on time and in accordance with regulations.
- Work harmoniously with the office's units.
