Purpose, Work and Duties

PURPOSE OF THE CENTER

University candidates, active students and graduates of university associate, undergraduate and graduate education programs,

  • Supporting career planning and personal development,
  • To carry out scientific, professional and educational studies on new business ideas, entrepreneurship and business life,
  • Providing counseling and information services,
  • Supporting individuals to discover their interests and talents in line with career opportunities all over the world and raising awareness,
  • To conduct practices and research at national and international level in order to increase internship opportunities for students and the preference of graduates.

TARGETS

To support our students and graduates to have a successful career journey by providing them with qualifications in line with the expectations of business life.

In this context, our career center goals for our students and graduates;

  • To create the necessary infrastructure to make the center known and visible for academic units and students,
  • To complete the necessary work to expand the scope of the services offered by the Center and to create innovative ideas,
  • To complete the formation of a counseling system to provide professional support to students and graduates by identifying employment opportunities in the labor markets according to their fields and competencies,
  • To complete the necessary infrastructure work to create awareness of academic career for students,
  • Improving experiential learning, job and internship opportunities for students and graduates,
  • Creating collaborations between the University, employers and other internal and external stakeholders,
  • To work to ensure the sustainability of the Center's service areas.

DUTIES, POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MANAGER


The director is appointed by the Rector for three years from among the faculty members working at the university in subjects related to the fields of activity of the center. The director whose term of office expires may be reappointed in the same manner. The director is responsible to the Rector for the regular execution and development of the center's activities.

Duties:

  • Represent and manage the center,
  • Calling the board of directors and advisory board to a meeting and chairing it,
  • To implement the decisions of the board of directors, to ensure the necessary coordination and supervision and to carry out the administrative affairs of the center,
  • To ensure that the services provided at the Center are carried out, evaluated and developed in a regular manner in accordance with its purpose, scientific and ethical principles,
  • To ensure that the Center works in communication and cooperation with academic-administrative units, students and their communities and application-research centers at the university,
  • At the end of each activity period, prepare the annual work report of the center and the draft work program for the following year and submit it to the board of directors,
  • To ensure the participation of the Center in national/international scientific and professional activities related to its objectives and activities,
  • To create and carry out joint projects with persons, units, institutions and organizations related to the field of study of the Center within the framework of cooperation and/or coordination principles,
  • To determine the need for academic, administrative and technical personnel to work in the Center and to submit proposals for assignments to the Rectorate.

ASSISTANT MANAGER

Upon the recommendation of the Director, he/she is appointed by the Rector for three years. The deputy director whose term of office expires can be reappointed in the same manner.

Duties:

  • To fulfill the duties assigned by the Director,
  • Deputizing the directorate when the director is absent,
  • To assist the center director in all activities of the center,
  • To implement the decisions taken by the board of directors in coordination with the center director,
  • To assist the director in the preparation of the activity report at the end of each year regarding the activities of the center and working groups.

MANAGEMENT BOARD

The Board of Directors consists of 8 members in total, including the director, deputy directors and 5 members appointed by the Rector for a period of three years by taking the opinion of the director among the university faculty members who work on the subjects within the fields of activity of the center. Members whose term expires may be reappointed by the Rector.

The director chairs the board of directors. The board of directors convenes four times a year. The director may also call the board of directors for an extraordinary meeting when deemed necessary.

Board meetings are held with the absolute majority of the number of members and decisions are taken with the absolute majority of those attending the meeting. Votes are given as acceptance or rejection. In case of equality of votes, the majority of the votes cast by the director shall be deemed to have been achieved.

Duties:

  • To create general strategies and policies for the purpose of the Center, to coordinate and evaluate the activities related to the programs to be organized,
  • To plan all activities to be carried out by the center in an academic year,
  • To discuss and decide on the report on the general situation and functioning of the center prepared by the director at the end of each academic year or when requested,
  • To evaluate and decide on projects between the Center and all national and international social stakeholders,
  • To decide on the education, training, scientific research, consultancy and publication activities of the Center and the principles related to these activities,
  • To evaluate and decide on the opinions and suggestions of the advisory board,
  • To determine the principles regarding the planning of participation certificates, certificates and similar documents to be given at the end of training programs,
  • To submit a report of its activities to the Rectorate at the end of the academic year,
  • To decide on other issues to be proposed by the Director.

ADVISORY BOARD

The advisory board consists of the director, deputy directors, faculty members of the university or other universities who have studies in the fields of activity of the center and, if they wish, experts from relevant public institutions and organizations and private organizations, and up to 5 members appointed by the Rector for three years upon the recommendation of the director. A new member is appointed in the same manner to replace the member whose duty has expired.

The advisory board convenes upon the call of the director, under the chairmanship of the director, at least once a year and more if necessary. The absolute majority is not required for the advisory board meeting, but decisions are taken by the absolute majority of the number of members attending.

Duties:

  • To help formulate the overall strategies and policies of the Center,
  • To make recommendations to the board of directors to ensure the development of cooperation with external stakeholders and sectors in line with the activities of the Center,
  • By the end of the working hours of the first week of October of each year, to submit a report to the board of directors on the activities, opinions and suggestions of their units within the scope of cooperation with the center and planned for the following year.

DEPARTMENT CAREER REPRESENTATIVES

In order to increase the functionality of the Center and to communicate directly with students and graduates, one academic staff member from each academic unit of the University is appointed as a career representative by the academic unit supervisors upon the proposal of the director.

Unit career representatives provide effective support services for the career development of students in their units. They work on organizing informative seminars, panels and conferences and record students' internship/job requests to be sent to the center's database.

CAREER ADVISORS
Career counselors are appointed by the Rector upon the proposal of the director among the experts in career planning and development from the academic units of the university and/or university-industry cooperation within the framework of the provisions of the relevant legislation.

Duties:

  • In line with the purpose of the Center, to support students' career development and to provide them with counseling services,
  • To propose projects to the board of directors in their areas of expertise and, if deemed appropriate, to work for their implementation, to ensure the development of cooperation with stakeholders such as public and private institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations, foundations and alumni associations,
  • To search for internship and job opportunities for students in their fields of expertise,
  • To contribute to the work of the board of directors,
  • Preparing students and graduates for business life.

FIELD OF ACTIVITY

  • To provide career planning and development counseling services to university candidates, students, graduates and university staff.
  • To carry out training activities and promotional meetings necessary for students, graduates and university staff to express their professional and personal knowledge that will contribute to their career development, in cooperation with other centers within the university when necessary.
  • To inform students about the process of finding a job.
  • To ensure that students and academic staff are informed about national and international exchange programs, scholarships and graduate programs.
  • To ensure the development and execution of joint projects with units such as student clubs and councils that carry out career planning activities within the university.
  • To create a continuously updated database of people, institutions and organizations that can provide internship or job opportunities to students and graduates or cooperate with them to achieve the purpose of the center.
  • To monitor the career development of graduates in business life and to create a database containing graduate information.
  • To ensure the development and execution of joint projects by establishing national and international collaborations with the university's stakeholders such as public and private institutions and organizations, non-governmental organizations, foundations and alumni associations within the scope of the relevant legislation provisions.
  • To follow up publications on career planning and development, to monitor research and projects on this subject.
  • To establish a communication network with national and international career platforms working in the field of career counseling within the scope of the provisions of the relevant legislation, to organize and / or participate in interactions such as training, courses, seminars, conferences, congresses, symposiums, panels, workshops at national and international level in this field.
  • To carry out joint studies and projects with national and international organizations on issues within the scope of the relevant legislation provisions, to examine exemplary practices on site, to become a member of these organizations.
  •  To support initiatives to raise awareness for the families of prospective students, to be a pioneer in activities to be carried out in this field.
  • To submit proposals to the Rectorate for the development and implementation of strategies for career planning in order to increase the preferability and prestige of the University and to implement the approved proposals.
  • To manage the communication of all activities carried out by the Center, to prepare printed and visual publications for this purpose, and to ensure the effectiveness of the Center on digital platforms.
